So, there are literally several methods through which we can solve the issue of the unavailability of the boot devices. So, in today’s article, we will be dealing with the issue of the unavailability of the boot device.
Method 1: Run CHKDSK through Command Prompt (Admin) Window
- Right-click on the Start Windows icon, then the Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type these following command, and replace the X with the drive letter you wish to scan: “CHKDSK X:”, we suggest you use “CHKDSK X: /F”, only then it can correct errors.
- Hit the enter key, Command Prompt will now start CHKDSK.

Method 2: Create Bootable Windows 10
Repair your computer by creating a Windows 10 Bootable media (i.e. USB or DVD) using Media Creation Tool and follow the steps below to check if the issue is resolved.
- Insert the Windows installation disc in the disc drive or connect USB media and then start the computer.
- Press a key when the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD appears.
If your PC does not detect the media automatically.
- During the restart process, read the screen for any instructions that explain how to interrupt normal startup and enter the basic input/output system (BIOS) setup utility. Most PCs use the F2, F10, ESC, or DEL key to begin the BIOS Setup.
- Look for a tab in the BIOS Setup Utility that is labeled Boot Order, Boot Options, or Boot. Following the directions on the screen, use the arrow keys to go to the Boot Order, then press Enter.
- Locate the CD, DVD, or USB flash drive (this might be called Removable Device) in the Boot list. Following the directions on the screen, use the arrow keys to move the drive up so that it appears first in the Boot list. Press Enter. The boot order sequence is now changed to boot from the CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
- Press F10 to save your changes and to exit the BIOS Setup Utility. Select Yes in the confirmation window. The PC will restart. Allow the PC to restart normally. The scan will take a few minutes and remove any malware that may be infecting your computer.
- Select language, time, currency, keyboard or another input method and then click Next.
- Click Repair your computer.
- Click the operating system that you want to repair and then click Next.
- On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot. Select Advanced Options >Command Prompt.
- Type the following command:
- Bootrec /fixMBR and then press ENTER.
Method 3: Check and Modify Your PC Boot Order
The first thing you should do if your HP will not boot and you suspect a hardware issue is to unplug all external devices, including printers, hard drives, thumb drives, etc. If the problem persists, you will want to make sure the BIOS didn’t get configured wrong accidentally. If you can get to a start-up screen, tap the F10 button to get to the BIOS setup screen.
Depending on your model, that might be a different function key. Try pressing F9 when in the BIOS settings to reset it. If that doesn’t work, you can usually scroll through the menus until you find the BIOS reset option. Once you do that, press F10 to save and exit. Hopefully, your PC will boot without further issues. If it does not, you may have an issue with the hard drive. Go back into the BIOS and look under TOOLS for the hard drive diagnostic test.
Method 4: Reset To Factory Condition If HP Will Not Boot
If you ultimately suspect your computer’s problems are software related, you can try booting into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key, then going in and removing any recently installed software or drivers. This is a great option if you know you did something to cause the problem. Or you may simply choose to save time and energy by resetting your HP computer to factory defaults. Tap F10 when booting until you see the recovery menu. If your hard drive has a recovery partition, you can reset it using that method. If you have recovery disks, you may need to use them.
Restore BIOS default settings
To restore the BIOS default setting, open the BIOS Setup screen.
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Method 6: Enable UEFI Boot
- Restart your PC and tap F2 or DEL depending upon your PC to open Boot Setup.

- Change Boot list option to UEFI
- Disable Load Legacy option ROM
- Enable Secure boot
- Next, tap F10 to Save and Exit the boot setup.
Method 7: Perform a Hard Reset
A hard reset re-establishes the connection between the BIOS and the hardware. Performing a hard reset is easy and it may fix the boot device not found 3F0 error. Follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Power button for 5 – 15 seconds to turn off the computer.
- Disconnect the power cable.
- If your notebook model features a removable battery, remove the battery.
- Disconnect and reconnect the internal hard drive.
- After connecting the hard drive and reassembling the computer, try to start the computer normally.
